Sean Shoemaker is a dogless (for now) student reporter at the University of Arkansas. He studies Journalism and Political Science. Sean is also a part-time producer at the local national public radio affiliate station KUAF 91.3 in Fayetteville where he has worked since 2016. While there he has produced segments for the community spotlight, as well as shoot and edit videos for the station for various events.
My latest challenge this semester will be the tall order of covering the start-up and craft brewery/distillery beat this semester for my News Reporting II class. Two of the main challenges I will likely face in covering that beat is remembering all of the people he meets from brewery to brewery, as well as not having too much fun. I love photography and videography, and hope to incorporate skills from those fields into my work for the semester to provide dimension to my stories. I was inspired to pursue a career in the field of journalism by none other than Hunter S. Thompson, a legendary journalist known for publishing his works during the ‘new journalism’ era. After graduating from Arkansas, I hope to continue working at KUAF enhancing their visual presence online, and providing the kind of depth in stories that could only be achieved with a plethora of multimedia. I train for marathons, and have ran the Hogeye marathon twice. Sean also wears zany socks, which he used to discuss as a segment on his old college radio show.
